Nobody, and I mean nobody, can explain the importance of being involved in the political process, and how to do it effectively, better than I can!
Hello, my name is Al Arnold and I first declared I would become a Mayor when I was a young lad delivering newspapers to the Mayor in my home town. As I delivered those papers I would often say to myself, "Someday, I will have your job". I didn't really know what a Mayor did, but I somehow knew I was destined to become one.
At the age of 33 I was first elected to that position. I was subsequently re-elected three more times. I was twice elected to our County Board. I have never lost when my name was on the ballot. For the past eight years I have been a local government Lobbyist for a large trade organization. In addition to those positions I have been a newspaper political cartoonist and have served on more citizen committees than I can even remember. I have sat in every chair of the room at local government meetings.
All that experience led me to write the book Moving Mountains and Molehills Local Politics 101. This book is intended to explain to citizens the process needed to effectively fight City Hall.
I am known for saying, "Political awareness is not an event, it is an educational process." I lay out a simple process for students to become politically active, aware and effective in presenting their viewpoints to elected officials. Or, even better yet, how they can move from being a spectator in politics, to being a decision maker.
The hope of the future in solving our political problems, rests with the young adults of today. They, and they alone, have the power and ability to make long range changes.
I would welcome the opportunity to stimulate your students into developing long range solutions to our political problems. Starting at the bottom and working their way up.

Five Informative Programs for College Audiences
Why Should I Vote?
This no-nonsense program lays out the importance of not only voting, but what to do after the votes are counted and the winner is declared. The dirty little secrets of how to make your voice heard are revealed.
The Pontificator notes:
Can one vote make a difference? Sometimes. Can one voter make a difference? All the time! Learning the difference between the two.
Changing the World...One Community at a Time
Is it fair to throw stones at how others live, when you allow your local officials to run roughshod over you? In this program the audience learns how to change the world...starting at home.
The Pontificator notes:
Your personal safety is at stake every day. Your garbage ends up somewhere else each week. What power generates your electricity? Is your water safe to drink? Today, next week, next year and beyond, these issues will impact you. Will you impact how decisions on these issues will be reached?
Women are Not Equal
Women are not equal to men in politics, and it is their own fault. Stop complaining and start doing something about it. This program gives you the information needed to empower women to equality...or maybe even more.
The Pontificator notes:
Why is a grizzled old man trying to recruit young women to run for public office? Because he knows the country needs them...that's why.
In the Beginning...
Every political activist has to start somewhere. This program teaches the correct place and way to start. Get your political activism career/hobby off on the the right foot.
The Pontificator notes:
There is an easy way and a hard way to learn the political process and to be effective in that process. This teaches you the easy way.
Moving Mountains and Molehills
Local politics is a game. A very serious game. There are winners and losers on every issue of importance. This program teaches you how to win.
The Pontificator notes:
What game did you ever play, that you won first time you tried? You needed to learn how to win. Just like any game, learning how to win probably meant losing a few times before victory occurred. Let's shorten that learning curve, and get you winning quickly.
