Heaven...Help Us!
The following is a Letter to the Editor in the the Tipton (IA) Conservative.
Today I attended the funeral of a Vietnam Veteran.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton refused the use of the United States Flag inside the church.
For the first time in my life I am ashamed to be a Catholic. I have been a member of the Davenport and Tipton Knights of Columbus for over 20 years. I am a U.S. Army Veteran of 8 years. Never in my wildest dreams did I realize that when I die, my coffin can’t have a U.S. Flag on it and if I am honored to have an honor guard there at the church, they can’t post the U.S. Flag inside.
Whoever made this policy, “SHAME ON YOU!”
This not only was being disrespectful of this veteran, but every veteran of Catholic faith that has served his or her country as well as all Americans.
Harry C. Denny
I would have sworn to it I heard the Pope last week say, "God Bless America"?

I'll bet there's more to this story than the letter lets on. Have you had a chance to check on it yet?
I attempted to send an email to the Editor at the address listed on their website, but it got bounced back to me as undeliverable at that address.
When I get this weeks edition I will let you know if there is an update on the story.
It is my wife's hometown paper. I don't make a habit of reading Letters to the Editor of every small town paper in the country. I am a sick man, but not that sick.
Our little local caused quite the tizzy last week by publishing a fairly controversial letter which turns out not to have been written by the woman whose name was under it.
It should be an interesting retraction.
