Entries in Agenda (1)

What's the Agenda?

It is pretty basic. Citizens have a right to see official Agendas of their local government meetings ... before the meetings. It may be pretty basic, but for some it is damn hard to do.

Let's first go to Dixon, CA.

The Reporter.Com tells us the story of an Agenda that had a Closed Session added to the end of its regular agenda, but the media was never notified of it.

Lame excuses were given. The District Attorney got involved. The meeting was cancelled. The Mayor definitely comes across as someone trying to hide something.

From California we travel to Texas and a report from Caller.Com.

In addition to being listed on Agendas, items should be so worded that citizens know what Agenda items mean.

What does this mean?

"Discuss and consider adopting a position letter related to county issues"?

A little on the vague side? But, that isn't the best part of this story.

On Tuesday, as county officials planned a workshop to set priorities, they said one of the goals was to be more transparent.

They decided to work harder to keep citizens informed. That's good, right?

Well ... when asked for the complete priority list, the request was declined.

As I have said many times, I can't make this kind of stuff up.
